Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has had some of the best Marvel trailers to date. The marketing for this franchise has been nothing sure of pure entertainment. Who’d of thought that a team consisting of a walking tree and talking raccoon would be the talk of the town? Somehow Marvel has found a way as the Guardians of the Galaxy have become some of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Director James Gunn has been known on occasion to drop a few snippets on his Twitter account and once again he stirs up more fan excitement. Gunn took to his Twitter account to release a couple of new posters for the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Let’s just say that these posters may resemble something you may have seen before.

Similarities and Differences Between These Posters

Released a few days ago, Gunn took to his Instagram to post this parody of the Guardians of the Galaxy team (from theposterposse) hanging off of what appears to be part of a spaceship. Drax the Destroyer and Baby Groot are the front and center pieces of this iconic poster

The original motion picture poster from The Goonies shows our characters hanging on for dear life by the edge of a stalactite with Josh Brolin’s character Brand at the top. You can also see part of the treasure map that eventually leads them to the lair of One-Eyed Willie’s hoard.

Both posters give audiences a sense of danger that these characters will be facing. Gunn does a great job giving us a poster that resembles the adventure that this rag-tag group of people will be embarking on.

Similarities and Differences Between These Posters

Roger Kastel is best remembered for his iconic Star Wars movie posters, especially the one for The Empire Strikes Back back in 1980. This poster will forever be ingrained in every Star Wars fan so it was only a matter of time for another filmmaker to parody this one. Since Guardians of the Galaxy is part of the cosmic side of the Marvel universe, it only seems fitting that these two would come together in a unique way. Some fans have even compared Guardians of the Galaxy to a modern day version of Star Wars. Matt Ferguson (@Cakes_Comics) who’s mostly known for his creative Marvel movie posters has done it again.

No matter how you look at it, the folks over at Marvel did a fantastic job mirroring the two posters to appear very similar. I really like Ferguson used Ego (Kurt Russell) in the background to replace Darth Vader’s dark image. Since this is a film all about Star-Lord finding his father, it only seems right to have a shadow-like image of Ego lurking in the back. This image also fits quite well since Ego is the main villain for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Of course you also can’t complete the poster without Han and Leia about to make out and instead have Star-Lord and Gamora in the center.
