Don’t Worry Folks, Indy Won’t Perish in ‘Indiana Jones 5’ According To Spielberg

Earlier this year, it was announced that Spielberg would be directing the fifth film of the Indiana Jones franchise.  With  Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull  receiving poor reviews, fans had hoped that the franchise wouldn’t end on a bitter note.  Fans were none too pleased with the story including Shia Labeouf performance as Indy’s son.  The film also received much scrutiny due to the sheer amount of unnecessary CGI footage, particularly those fire ants and swinging monkey’s.

The film as a whole wasn’t very good.  It was a big disappointment for this franchise.  Most want to believe that this movie never existed, but alas we are essentially stuck with it.  However, the bitterness can subside if  Indy 5  is any good.  Steven Spielberg who is arguably the greatest movie director of all time, was asked a very important question related to the fate of Harrison Ford’s character of Indiana Jones.  When asked if Spielberg planned on killing off the iconic character, he responded saying,

“The one thing I will tell you is I’m not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it.”

Well there’s your answer everyone!  No need to fear, because Indiana Jones won’t be killed off in his latest film.  This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to some fans.  Sure Han Solo’s character perished in  The Force Awakens,  but Indiana Jones’s legacy will live on.

However, this doesn’t mean the character won’t be retired in any way.  After all, his son was introduced in  Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull  so there’s reason to believe that someone will eventually take up the mantle of our swash-buckling hero.

Is This A Smart Decision By Spielberg?

Absolutely.  Can we honestly take another death by a beloved Harrison Ford character?  With Han Solo’s death being a crux for later installments, I don’t see how taking Indiana Jones’s life would make any sense whatsoever.  They could pull a Agent Carter situation here where she was well known by many, but eventually died of old age.  But frankly, that would be too much of a cop-out.

I would be quite alright for Spielberg to make one final Indiana Jones film starring Harrison Ford. At least this could end Indy’s miraculous adventure on a higher note.  I mean, it can’t possibly be as bad as the last one can it?  I am holding out hope that this new (final?)  Indiana Jones  movie will bring us back to what made Indy so great.  The practical effects, the gravitas of Ford’s character, and the writing sorely lacked in his previous iteration.  Indy needs to set off into the sunset one last time.  Spielberg, don’t let me down.

Are you excited for  Indiana Jones 5,  knowing he will make it out alive?  I’d like to hear what you have to say in the comment section below!
