New Movie Stills, Poster, AND Synopsis Released by Empire for ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’

“That’s definitely bigger than the last one.” -David Levinson

Independence Day: Resurgence  looks to reinvigorate a franchise that all started with the 1996 blockbuster film  Independence Day.  With most of the original cast returning such as Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, and Vivica A. Fox,  the film looks far more promising.  The second trailer 20th Century Fox released about a month ago, completely won me over.  I have been a HUGE fan of the original film as it’s one of my favorite sci-fi/action movies of all time.

Empire  has just released a few new images from scenes taken directly from the film along with a brand new movie poster.  Check out the stills and movie poster down below!

What can we take from these images?

These images can be seen from the trailers and doesn’t give us a whole lot from the main story of the film.  That is of course how it should be.  All of these pics are dark and have an ominous tone to them.  I especially love the first photo that gives us a better perspective of the alien.  Let’s not forget that these aliens are much smaller in size, as what we are seeing, are actually the suits they live inside of.

The photo that has the giant spaceship above it ready to fire most likely takes place on the moon base that the humans have built as we have seen from the trailers.  You can expect that base to be blown to smithereens.

However the highlight of these images is actually the final one released by  Empire,  that shows the alien suit hovering over of what I presume to be the planet Earth.  The poster is clearly making a statement, informing audiences that these aliens are making their grand return.  Earth looks to be in trouble and the nations will have to bond together once again in order to defeat them.  Our planet has had twenty years to prepare for their imminent return, and so did they.

Official Synopsis for the Film also released!

20th Century Fox also gave their fans an official synopsis for the film.  Check it out in its entirety below:

“We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”

This is a good synopsis, but doesn’t tell us anything we don’t already know.  Based on the trailers, Goldblum’s character David has reiterated that Earth has been preparing for another fight over the past twenty years.  Earth has taken their technology and is using it to their advantage to help defeat these aliens once again.  The nations will have to bond at least one last time to fend off these pesky aliens from destroying the entire world and to avoid the brink of extinction.

So those are my thoughts on the still images, poster and official synopsis for the film.  Are you excited to see  Independence Day: Resurgence?  What did you think of these photos and the synopsis of the film released by Fox?  I’d like to hear your thoughts in the comment section below!
