I cannot write enough about how amazing this film looks. The recent trailer has given us plenty to talk about including how Will Smith’s character Captain Steven Hiller perished as a result of an “alien tech malfunction.” However when I watch these trailers, I love talking about the lines of dialogue. The Independence Day Resurgence trailer, is no exception. You can check out the trailer in full down below!
Dialogue in trailers appear to be strategically placed at the right moments. There are plenty of things said that could have double meanings. However this trailer seems pretty cut and dry offering much fan service for those who enjoyed the 1996 film. So without further adieu, here are in no particular order “The 7 Best Lines of Dialogue from the Latest Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer.”
#1. “We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him.” -Patricia Whitmore
This quote is said by Whitmore’s daughter Patricia. She mentions that she has to go to the anniversary because everyone would have perished if it wasn’t for his bravery the first time the aliens arrived to Earth. Former President Whitmore gave one of the most memorable speeches in all of cinema and he himself would go straight into battle to take down one of the alien ships. His bravery will prove useful yet again as he appears to have learned more about the aliens knowing all too well of their imminent return.
#2. “They’re not screaming. They’re celebrating.” -Dr. Brackish Okun
Apparently Brent Spiner’s character Dr. Brackish Okun lived to fight another day after the events that unfolded in the first film. Dr. Okun was one of the only characters who actually learned of these aliens for a VERY long time and kept everything a secret below Area 51. In one scene from the trailer, we see the aliens screech out in horror but in actuality they are “celebrating” according to Okun. The aliens have returned and certainly are seeking vengeance for losing to a computer virus.
#3. “We’ve got to remind them Earth is not for the taking!” -Dylan
This is of course a simple one liner, but I like it. This is certainly something his father Captain Hiller would say before going into battle. This scene looks to take place somewhere on a military base. He appears to give a speech in front of a few of his comrades and wants everyone to know that we are not going down without a fight.
#4. “What goes up, must come down.” -David Levinson
Jeff Goldblum again has the best one liners in a trailer (you’ll be seeing another very soon). In a scene that shows complete devastation, we see the aliens use a gravity field to lift larger buildings up into the sky. Knowing how gravity works, David makes it known that everything must eventually come down and that is exactly what happens. Buildings are falling from the sky and cause massive destruction in the surrounding area. Earth doesn’t look too good here.
#5. “It’s fourth of July. Let’s show them some fireworks!” -Dylan
A line clearly taken directly from his father Captain Hiller, Dylan is confident going into battle. He appears to have that don’t quit/don’t back down attitude as we see him pilot one of the newly refurbished air craft. Prepare to hear more one liners from Dylan in the coming film.
#6. “We convinced an entire generation. That this is a battle that we could win. We sacrifice for each other no matter what the cost. And that’s worth fighting for.” -Thomas Whitmore
A long quote, but a very effective one. This quote pays direct homage to the very first movie when he mentions that they convinced everyone to fight against the threat of the aliens and won. The whole world was willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of humanity. Fortunately for the humans, they were able to learn the aliens weakness and did everything they could to get the job done even if it meant sacrificing many lives.
#7. “They like to get the landmarks.” -David Levinson
The Whitehouse, the Empire State Building, the U.S. Bank Tower, and the U.S. Capitol Building; all these landmarks were completely annihilated by the aliens from the first movie. One blast on each building decimated an entire city. As we saw in the recent trailer, Goldblums’ character makes it clear that they love the landmarks. Shortly after he says that line we see the famous Tower Bridge in London get destroyed as Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth) and David Levinson try to outmaneuver the blast from the aliens. This is most definitely my favorite line from the trailer. Expect more amazing lines from Goldblum in this film!
