“I couldn’t help it. It just popped in there… It’s the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.” – Ray
The Stay Puft Marshmallow man is probably one of the craziest ‘villains’ ever put to screen. When you think of Ghostbusters most people would immediately think of the final scene where our four classic heroes had to take on a giant marshmallow man (thanks again Ray!). The film is a beloved classic and spawned a sequel which is categorized by most as a disappointment.
Unfortunately a second sequel had been on the hiatus for quite a while until director Paul Feig took control of the situation. Feig’s take on comedy directing films such as Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy while also having a love for all things Ghostbusters seemed like a match made in heaven. However with all of the negativity and publicity surrounding the film including the cast being all female, the movie has already been climbing a steep battle. An official trailer had been released a few weeks ago and let’s just say it wasn’t met with the best intentions. Most (including myself) felt that the trailer fell flat especially on the comedy aspect of it. Well, I have to say as I wasn’t the only one to feel this way either.
YouTuber Darren Wallace, recently posted a video showcasing our fellow marshmallow man reacting to Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters trailer and let’s just say he felt the same way as most of us did. Check out the video in all its glory below:
Surprised? Did you see that coming? Even the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man hated it. The beginning of the trailer provided hope as we see him glance over and smile occasionally. It isn’t until the lame jokes kick in when we see him frown or roll his eyes. My favorite part was when Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig’s characters looked at each other while both saying “Let’s go!” at the same time. The Marshmallow Man’s reaction is hilarious as he looks directly at us giving us that look of “Really? Did they really just do that right now?”
It’s pretty sad when I had more fun watching him react to the trailer than actually enjoying the trailer on its own merits. Look, I really hope this film does well. I don’t mean to hate on it but let’s be honest; the jokes fell flat, the CGI looks overused, and it appears like they’re rehashing a lot of the things that made the original films so delightful to watch. I never want a film to do poorly but right now things aren’t looking good for this ‘reboot’ (is that even what it is because the beginning of the trailer is SO confusing.)
Anyway, what did you think of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man’s reaction to the trailer? Do you think this film will still be good after all the flak its been getting? I’d like to hear your thoughts below!
