5 Things We Should Expect to See in the Next ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer

Captain America: Civil War  is shaping up to be the defining Marvel cinematic universe film where heroes will take a stand and face off against one another with differences of opinion on the responsibilities of superheroes.  Joe and Anthony Russo who both co-directed arguably the greatest Marvel standalone film:  Captain America: The Winter Soldier,  will once again be taking hold of the third and perhaps final solo film for our favorite American hero.

Before I get to my list, I’d like to talk a little about the interview the Russo brothers had a few days ago…

The Russo brothers  were recently interviewed regarding the impact that this film will have for future Marvel films.  Captain America: Civil War  will be the first film to kick off Phase 3 and in a BIG way:

The consequences of Civil War will have an even more significant impact [than The Winter Soldier]. In Civil War, we’re going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Psychology, and it’s an extreme shift. Winter Soldier was a political thriller; this is a psychological thriller.

A psychological thriller?  This sounds like the right phrase for  Captain America: Civil War.  This film will pit our heroes against one another over political reasons regarding the Sokovia Accords which state that the heroes are held accountable for their actions and MUST be under direct supervision of the government.

Clearly, Tony Stark’s take on this should be with the government having proven how careless he has become with his own technology.  His technology has gotten into the hands of many villains including Obadiah Stane from the first film, Whiplash in the sequel, and most recently creating “an army around the world” thus producing the likes of Ultron.

On the other hand, Steve Rogers would be thoroughly against this legislation simply because he believes in one thing: Freedom.  While confronting Nick Fury in  Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Rogers mentions to him that all of the defensive measures that S.H.I.E.L.D. created has all lead to fear: “This isn’t freedom.  This is fear.”

The Captain has a right to be against the Sokovia Accords as he understands what happens when people are given limitations.  Cap has been through a lot in his many years of service.  While his viewpoint may not be the safest and secure way, at least according to him it’s the best way.  Hydra already compromised S.H.I.E.L.D. while Tony expected robots to protect humanity (and we all saw how that panned out).

The Russo brothers also mentioned another crucial part involving the finale of the film:

“The film has a very dramatic ending that will be controversial for a lot of people.”

What could this so-called controversial ending be?  Could the Russo brothers truly have the guts to kill off one of the more popular Avengers?  Could they go with the ending of the  Death of Captain America  storyline where Bucky takes over as the new Captain America?  Or could they do a complete 180 and kill off Tony Stark?  That ending would surely be a shocker to Robert Downey Jr. fans around the world.

I have to say that I’m very intrigued as to what this dramatic ending will be.  We know this film won’t be as serious in tone as  The Winter Soldier  (how can you be with both Ant-Man and Spider-Man in the film?), but we can certainly look forward to a character driven movie.

The latest teaser trailer gave us enough to speculate over but we should expect to see another trailer in the coming weeks.  With all that said, I’d like to give you “5 Things we should expect to see in the next  Captain America: Civil War Trailer.”

#1.  More Hero vs Hero Battles

We’ve gotten a bunch of clips of our heroes facing off against each other.  We also got our first look at the teams during the superbowl tv spot.  I’d love to hear more banter between Steve and Tony.  My favorite part of that last trailer was the line that Steve spoke to Tony: “I’m sorry Tony.  You know I wouldn’t do this if I had any other choice.  But he’s my friend.”  Tony then replies “So was I.”  It was a heartfelt moment between both of the Avengers.  Expect to hear more of their conflict in the next trailer and to see the other Avengers going toe to toe in battle.

#2.  The Cap vs Crossbones Fight

We have seen plenty of behind the scenes photos and videos of this battle between the two.  Now, it’s time to put part of it in the trailer.  Former “S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent” Brock Rumlow was terribly burned at the conclusion of  Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  He will be given a new suit of armor and named Crossbones in this film.  Crossbones has a grudge against Cap and must take care of business.  We can all assume that we will be seeing part of this fight in the next trailer.

#3.  Dialogue from Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther

The teaser trailer gave us enough indication that we can expect the Black Panther to play a pivotal role in this film.  Marvel is gearing up for T’Challa to become one of the primary players for Phase 3. We still don’t know a great deal about the Black Panther in this universe (hell we practically know next to nothing at all!).  However, I feel that’s about to change.

The next trailer should certainly show us more of the ruler of Wakanda but we should also expect to learn more about him particularly his presence in the film.  We may not learn enough to understand the reasons why he’s taking part in this fight (especially why he’s on Team Stark), but we should at least hear him speak a line or two regarding his stance on this issue.  The Black Panther is certainly one of Marvel’s lesser known characters but the tides are about to turn.

#4.  Tom Holland’s Peter Parker or a Quick flash of Spider-Man

The marketing for the famous wall crawler is easier said than done.  SONY technically owns all of the rights to market this character which could put a potential stranglehold on Marvel’s part.  The deal that Marvel and SONY made allows Marvel to use this character in any of their films however the marketing and advertising campaigns belong solely to SONY.  This could make it a challenge for Marvel to place him somewhere in one of the trailers.  I don’t believe that Marvel will pull a Luke Skywalker on us (even though I hope that’s what they do), but it would be a missed opportunity to let people know that Peter Parker aka Spider-Man is in this universe to play in.

We can’t expect to see him all that much leading up to the film.  In fact I’d rather they not market him at all but if they do, just give us hints that he’s in the film.  We don’t want to know reasons why he’s there.  That’s what the surprise will be when we see it with our own eyes.  All I ask of SONY and Marvel is that if they do show us Spider-Man, just give us a quick flash of him swinging around buildings or a close up without his mask.  We don’t even need him to speak in the trailer.  Just surprise us when the film comes out and we should all be satisfied.

#5.  Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo

We haven’t been given or shown NOTHING of the primary villain that will be in  Captain America: Civil War.  Everyone seems to be focused on the fight between Captain America and Iron-Man (and rightfully so) but most people forget that there is a main foe in this movie; we just haven’t seen him yet.  I do believe that we will be getting our first look at Zemo’s introduction to the Marvel cinematic universe in this next trailer.  Hopefully, we will also get to hear Zemo speak a line or two giving us an indication of his role in the movie.

I wrote an article a few months back that mentioned how I believed that this new villain could potentially be the smartest and most cunning villain Marvel has to offer.  You can read all about my theory on that by clicking here.  We should all anticipate seeing or hearing Baron Zemo in the next trailer.

So what do you all think?  What other things do you expect to see or want to see in the next trailer for  Captain America: Civil War?  I’d like to hear your thoughts in the comment section below and please share!
