Archangel Confirmed As One of the Four Horsemen in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse?’

A few days ago it was made known to the public by director Bryan Singer himself, that Ben Hardy was going to play Warren Worthington III aka Angel in next summer’s  X-Men: Apocalypse.  The character was however used previously in  X-Men: The Last Stand,  but only had a minor role in the film.  That Angel was portrayed by actor Ben Foster.  So yes another actor who’s name starts with Ben will be playing one of the X-Men greats.

Here are the recently released concept art photos by  Empire:

Judging by these photos, it looks like we may very well be getting the character Archangel from the comics and possibly one of Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen known as ‘Death.’

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the character of Angel, he is a mutant who sprouted wings at a young age while living with his wealthy family.  He eventually joined Professor X’s team of mutants and fought alongside the X-Men in various battles.  During one of the wars, his wings became heavily damaged and later infected which left him no choice but to have his wings amputated.  While contemplating possible suicide, Angel was later met by the infamous villain Apocalypse who swore that he could give him new and improved wings by leaving the X-Men and handing over his life debt.  Apocalypse asked him to become one of his four horseman in which Angel reluctantly agreed.

Angel later came to be known as ‘Archangel’ where Apocalypse gave him new metallic wings of steel.  In the comics while serving Apocalypse, Archangel became one of his Four Horsemen.  His new name was ‘Death’ and joined the other three horsemen who’s name were ‘Famine,’ ‘War,’ and ‘Pestilence.’

Throughout the years, Archangel came into direct conflict with his former X-Men team.  However, after watching fellow mutants perish Archangel later turned back over to fight alongside the X-Men in which case he loses his metallic wings.  It was later revealed that he was growing new wings underneath and became Angel once again.

To be honest, I really hope that Singer chooses Angel as of one the Horsemen because this unique story could play well into this X-Men universe.  Obviously they don’t have to tell the full story of Angel’s background but it would be great to feel sorry for a mutant who grew up with a rough childhood and chose a difficult path which would change his life for the worst.

As far as the other horsemen are concerned, I really have no clue who those could be.  Your guess is as good as mine.  There have been plenty of mutants and other characters who have worked for Apocalypse over the years with Archangel being one of the originals.  Some of the names include Wolverine, Gambit, Banshee, Sentry, Psylocke, Sunfire, Polaris, and even the Hulk.

Perhaps we won’t know who the other horsemen will be until  X-Men: Apocalypse  is released in theaters on May 27, 2016.  The cast for the film is huge which includes returning members Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Magneto (both Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen will reprise their roles), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Evan Peters (Quicksilver), and Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne).

There’s also a brand new cast set to play younger versions of the X-Men characters from the previous films.  Those include Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Storm (Ororo Munroe), and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee).

X-Men: Apocalypse  is sure shaping up to be an incredible film.  While we don’t fully know the background of the story, the casting looks amazing.  This film certainly will be difficult to top 2011’s  X-Men: First Class  as well as last year’s massive hit  X-Men: Days of Future Past.  However, with the franchise still in the hands of Bryan Singer I believe this could become the greatest X-Men film yet!

So what do YOU think of the recent casting of Ben Hardy as Angel?  Do you think Archangel will be introduced and become one of Apocalypse’s horsemen in the film?  Please share your thoughts and comment below!
