Marvel’s Ant-Man will be coming to a theater near you sooner than you think. We still do not know much about this film or the characters for that matter. Marvel has been keeping things on the “down low” for us movie fanatics. So far all we know is the cast, part of the plot, and the release date. That is not much to go on at all. Marvel has laid out their plan brilliantly. Fans (including myself) are still speculating on what will happen in the film. Alberta Film Classification has recently posted that the upcoming Ant-Man trailer clocks in at 1 minute 48 seconds. This will no doubt be a teaser trailer and will only show us glimpses of what to expect in the film. I’ve composed a list of what I’m excited to see in the upcoming trailer. Here are five things that will hopefully be included in the first Ant-Man movie trailer:
Yellowjacket (played by Cory Stoll) is the primary villain in the film. From what we know, Darren Cross was Hank Pym’s former assistant and helped Pym create the necessary technology to harness the Pym particles. However somewhere down the line, Pym sensed a distraught Cross and fired him. Deeply enraged by Pym’s decision, Cross is determined to steal his technology and pick up where he left off with his research. After having succeeded, Cross takes over Pym’s corporation and constructs a suit which allows him to become more powerful. Cross wears the armor and identifies himself as Yellowjacket.
The trailer should at least give us an idea of what the suit may look like. The photo above was leaked a few months ago but there hasn’t been any confirmation from Marvel that this is the suit that Cross will sport. It looks cool and to see it in action would be awesome! We probably won’t get too much out of the antagonist but a couple of seconds in the trailer wouldn’t hurt.
You would think that with the title of the movie Ant-Man most people would like to reference the main character and how Marvel may bring him into this cinematic universe. However, with Evangeline Lilly breaking movie headlines about director Edgar Wrights departure from the film, everyone wonders how her character will be portrayed in the film. Though she has been confirmed to play Hope Van Dyne, there has not been any sufficient evidence that would lead us to believe that Lilly would also be starring as the Wasp.
In a previous article, I have already mentioned that I believe she will most certainly don the Wasps costume in the film which you can view right here;
Lilly has declared the importance of her character stating that she is heavily involved with Hank Pym and Scott Lang’s planned heist that will take place in the film. It would be unfortunate not to have seen Wasp in the trailer at all but Marvel always wants to surprise their fans with the unexpected. A good example of this is the Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Even though we have not seen the Vision in a trailer thus far, we have been teased with a few photos of what the final product may resemble. Expect to see him sometime in the next trailer. As for Wasp, who knows? Maybe she will make a slight appearance. Fingers crossed!
3. The Heist
“Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”
That is the official synopsis for Ant-Man. I will be highly disappointed if we don’t at least get to see part of the heist in the trailer. Ant-Man having shrunk down to the size of an ant (I didn’t have to tell you that), Pym explaining the plan to the group, and Lilly helping out in some way (hopefully as the Wasp), all these factors we hope to see in this first trailer. If Marvel at least gives us an idea of what happens during the heist, that would be fine by me. We were also teased by some early Comic-Con footage potentially from the film. You can check it out below.
2. Michael Douglas as Hank Pym speaking with Tony Stark’s father, Howard Stark
This may not bring up a lot of excitement as far as trailers go, but this actually is a HUGE piece of the puzzle. We have already been told that there will be a ton of flashbacks that will occur in this film. This movie will most likely bridge the gap between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War. So it should come as no surprise that this film will be highly significant when it’s all said and done. I have my doubts that this will be shown in the teaser, however it will most certainly be revealed in a trailer after Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015.
As stated earlier, Marvel is very perceptive on revealing further plots that will be explored in later films. They try not to give too much away leaving fans plenty of questions to salivate over. This offers plenty of time for Marvel to slowly disclose information little by little. Understanding Pym’s past with Howard Stark will no doubt play a bigger role in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The summary for that film is as follows:
“When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and it is up to The Avengers to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans…”
The keywords there are jumpstart and dormant. In other words, this program has been established a long time before Tony had a chance to create his robots with his Stark technology. We already understand that it will be Tony who creates Ultron however, it should be noted that Pym was the creator in the comics.
Could it be possible that Howard and Pym spoke over this matter many years ago? Could Iron-Man be following a blueprint from both his father’s and Pym’s initial plan? Hopefully the trailer will shed some light on this topic. Chances are, it will NOT be in the teaser.
1. Ant-Man controlling ants
How else could a man be referred to as Ant-Man without communicating with ants? That’s like telling Aquaman never to speak with marine life!
All kidding aside, it would be nice to see how director Peyton Reed will assemble the necessary special effects of Ant-Man riding on top of ants and conversing with them. This is the main reason why Ant-Man gets a bad rap. As corny as this Marvel character may be, he is one of the most important and a founding member of the Avengers. He even forms and leads his own league of superheroes at some point in the comics. It would be nice if Reed could give this Marvel character the justice he deserves. If he could at least tone down the dullness of this hero, then things should move in a very positive direction. Having Ant-Man speak to ants and use them to his advantage could potentially be the highlight of the trailer let alone the film if done properly.
Fans will not have to wait much longer. This may not be the film most fans will crave over but I have a feeling a few trailers will help change their mind. Ant-Man will make his big screen debut on July 17, 2015.
