With the recent casting news of Benedict Cumberbatch playing ‘Doctor Strange’ and Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the smack-talking ‘Deadpool,’ Marvel fans of all ages were once again treated with more good news: Thanos will likely have more appearances before Avenger’s Infinity War Part 1 and 2 are released in theaters in 2018/2019 respectively.
First of all, let’s just completely forget that Avengers Age of Ultron is coming out next May and zip forward to Avengers Infinity War Part 1 and 2. Obviously I’m just joking about that. Thanos has appeared briefly in the post credits scene of Marvel’s The Avengers as well as in this summer’s blockbuster hit Guardians of the Galaxy. Fans were elated to finally see the big bad Thanos appear in the film momentarily. Without much screen-time, Thanos made his presence felt while sitting at the Altar gazing out into the deep dark unknowns of the cosmic universe.
Brolin gave his take on performing as the formidable villain: “I love the idea of Thanos,” says Brolin. “…Ultimately, it’s Thanos against everyone. Why wouldn’t you do that?”
“The fact that it’s so, it’s like, yeah in 2016 and ’17, what am I going to be doing? Oh, I’m going to be doing that. I’m very lucky in that way, man. I just get presented these things and I go wow, really? Why now and why this? The possibilities for Thanos are unlimited.”
Brolin even referenced his performance in Guardians of the Galaxy: “I loved doing it. It was great. It was totally different. That’s not even the reason why I did it. I just loved the idea of that. It’s a really fun deal. I was more nervous during that than I think I’ve been in a long time because it’s a very different venue with 32 cameras or whatever surrounding you, and paint but fun.” Read more at http://nukethefridge.com/2014/12/07/thanos-josh-brolin-booked-marvel-2016-2017/#wzKtfh0PVW3TXMoH.99.
It’s very likely that we will see him again in the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. After all, not only was he shown in the first film, but the major characters including Gamora and Drax have referenced him occasionally. Here are some quotes from the movie:
Gamora: Your wife and child shall rest well, knowing that you have avenged them.
Drax the Destroyer: Yes. Of course Ronan was only a puppet. It’s really Thanos that I need to kill. http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0036548/quotes
Perhaps Thanos will become a bigger threat in Guardians of the Galaxy 2? It’s no secret that he will most certainly be the major villain in both Avengers Infinity War Part 1 and 2. However, there has been a lot of speculation that he would show up sooner. So far, the rumors have been true. The Infinity Wars cannot come soon enough! But who am I kidding? We have WAY more Marvel movies to look forward to before then.
So what do you guys think? Do you think Thanos will have a major role in a film before Avengers Infinity War Part 1 and 2? Or do you think he will be teased again like he was in Guardians of the Galaxy? Share your thoughts below!
