Now some of you may be wondering, why I titled this article “Quicksilver + Scarlet Witch= Inhumans?” My reasoning is that I believe the Avengers Age of Ultron characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will in fact be Inhumans.
What are Inhumans you might ask? To keep it short, Inhumans are biological super-humans that were the result of experimentation of ancient man by the demented alien race called the Kree. For those of you who saw Guardians of the Galaxy, they were briefly shown and mentioned in the film.
These “test subjects” were to be used primarily as weapons to help the Kree fight the Skrulls in the Kree/Skrull war. However, after they experimented on these humans, they abandoned them for unknown reasons. The Inhumans were able to escape and ended up somewhere on Earth on an island called Attilan. There they lived, flourished and cohabitated creating other Inhumans with special powers. These offspring of Inhumans include fan favorites “Black Bolt, Medusa, Gorgon, Triton, Karnac, and Lockjaw” just to name a few. I’m not going to go into detail concerning their powers and abilities but you can learn more about them here if you’re interested: http://marvel.wikia.com/Inhumans_(Race).
Anyway, if you recall, at the end of the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the end credit scene showed Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch incarcerated in their own individual cells. The villain, Baron Von Strucker of Hydra called them “miracles.” Now this is where things get a bit confusing.
The original story in the comics, had Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch labeled as Mutants. Mutants are people who are born with powers such as those in the X-Men comics. Now Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are actually Magneto’s children. However, due to copy rights and all that legal stuff, Disney/Marvel do not own the rights to the X-Men movies (20th Century Fox does) therefore they are not permitted to use the term Mutants in any of their films. This is perhaps the main reason they are referred to as “miracles” instead of the title “mutants.” It can be confusing if you’re familiar with the comic’s verbiage over the terminology used in the films.
Therefore, when attempting to put all of these clues together, I have come to the conclusion that Disney/Marvel is changing the back story of our favorite twin Mutants by now labeling them as experiments/miracles or to be more specific Inhumans which goes antithetical against the comic’s back story about the duo. Marvel CEO Kevin Feige has just confirmed an Inhumans movie to be released in theaters on November 2, 2018.
I have to believe that somewhere down the line, these two characters are going to play MAJOR roles and be intertwined in future Marvel films leading up to the Inhumans movie. The Guardians of the Galaxy film already introduced the Kree and Ronan the Accuser. I have a hunch that Baron Von Strucker got his hands on some of the “experiments” that the Kree were working on. I cannot wait for Avengers Age of Ultron to be shown on the big screen in May 2015 which features Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch! It should reveal more clues about Disney/Marvels plans.
